Veronica Shoffstall

After awhile you learn the subtle difference
Between holding a hand and chaining a soul,
And you learn that love doesn’t mean leaning
And company doesn’t mean security,
And you begin to learn that kisses aren’t contracts
And presents aren’t promises,
And you begin to accept your defeats
With your head up and your eyes open,
And learn to build all your roads
On today because tomorrow’s ground
Is too uncertain for plans, and futures have
A way of falling down in mid-flight.
After awhile you learn that even sunshine
Burns if you get too much.
So you plant your own garden and decorate
Your own soul, instead of waiting
For someone to bring you flowers.
And you learn that you really can endure…
that you really are strong
And you really do have worth.
And you learn and learn.. .
With every goodbye you learn.

Poem by Hafiz

Don’t surrender your loneliness
So quickly.
Let it cut more deep.

Let it ferment and season you
As few human
Or even divine ingredients can.

Something missing in my heart tonight
Has made my eyes so soft,
My voice
So tender,

My need of God
Absolutely
Clear.

And The Point of It All…I Love You

So…my friends and I have deemed this as the song that describes the “ideal guy.” The words that Anthony Hamilton sing… He will be in concert in Birmingham in June. I might really need to check that out.

Lyrics

I can’t stay away from you too long
Even if I do I’ll always call
Checkin’ on you make sure you’re ok
Be the one to brighten up your day

And the point of it all
Is I love you
You know I love you baby

My days seem long whenever we’re apart
It’s like someone had thrown away my heart
You’re a major part of my life
And no matter what the storm may bring
I’m fine with you,

And the point of it all
Is I love you
And the reason for it all
Is I love you

O I love
O I love you
O my love

I can’t stay away too long
I can’t stay away from you baby
Don’t wanna be without you
I need you
O why don’t you stay around for awhile

And the point of it all
And the point of it all
And the point of it all
And the point of it all
Ohhohh, and the reason for it all
And the point of it all
Is that I love you
Yeah, I love you

Whenever we’re apart
It damn near starves my heart
And I don’t ever want to be apart

Fly Away

I have been on PJ Morton’s bandwagon for a couple of months now. Something about this song…the lyrics…

Hello, Mister

It’s nice to meet you

For some strange reason,

I’m drawn to you

Will you take me away from here?

So we can fly away

Chorus

Dont you worry about a thing

Let your mind go free,

Forget everything

I will be the wind under your wings

So we can fly away

As The Season Changes

The season is changing; spring is near.

I am blossoming and coming out of my cocoon and like that butterfly, I am more beautiful.

I will fly beyond the limits, pushing boundaries, and shattering barriers.

Growth is good for the soul, pain is as well. I call it growing pains.

Stretching, molding, and forming me into a virtuous woman.

Woman…transitioning into womanhood and no longer identified as a girl.

Freeing myself of the indignant past coldness, feeling the warmth of the sun.

I am alive…I smell the flowers and I deeply inhale…spring.

I welcome the warmth of spring and bid adieu to the cold, cold winter.
